December 18, 2006 , A Kentucky Fried Movie Review...
We all know and love Amazon Women on the Moon....one of the all time classics that I can watch over and over. The other day I was on the IMDB entry for it and I found out that it was actually a sequel to a movie called Kentucky Fried Movie. After talking it over with the Fat and getting our hopes up, he was smart enough to add it to his net flix. He invited me over and I graciously accepted. This movie was filmed in 1977 and this review falls under our motto here of "Better late then never!"
The film began very slow to be honest. The sketches were more nasty than funny. I had a forced laugh a few times early, but the setting was good to lower my hopes. The movie runs under the same premise as Amazon Women on the Moon with a bunch of small clips linked together. With my hopes lowered, the first real funny came when an astrologer said, "If you are a Gemini like I am, expect the unexpected." She was then hit by an arrow and fell down dead. Every time you forgot about this gag, someone would get hit again later in the movie in unrelated sketches.
Kentucky Fried Movie kicked into high gear when the karate movie began. If I could type in your typical karate movie sound, I still don't think I could express the sounds that they used. You'll just have to see it for yourself. "No! No, not Detroit! No! No, please! Anything but that! No! No!" I know this makes very little sense, but try explaining Amazon Women on the Moon in text. Bottom line, as far a sequels go, Amazon Women on the Moon is the best ever. The movie was enjoyable, and a good first attempt that later turned into Amazonian enjoyness. Because of early lowered expectations, I wasn't disappointed.
Favorite Quotes: "I will take this knife from your neck if you tell me you love me." "I'll never tell you that in a million years!" <Man making alarm sound with megaphone>
Bottom line, 3 1/2 lizards.
